Climate: Ocean

Covering about 2/3 the surface of earth, oceans are largely responsible for making earth a livable environment to humans as they regulate climate long-term and provide the world with most of its oxygen. Today ocean temperatures are rising at the same time CO2 pollution is transforming the chemistry of the ocean making the water more acidic. The most rapid change is taking place in the Arctic’s cold-water regions, leaving its marine environment, such as that of Greenland, in double jeopardy. Oceans are resilient, however, and studying the interplay between earth, ocean and climate, we will explore our role in protecting life in the oceans—and ourselves. Chat topic: Climate Change.
